The Thunder Bay Law Association provides ongoing funding to both Confederation College and Lakehead University to their awards programs. The award for Confederation College began in 1975 with an annual award of $100.00 to a graduating student in the Legal Secretarial Program and continues today in the Police Foundations, or the Law & Security Program, as a $500.00 award to a graduating student. The bursary at Lakehead University began in 1990 as a joint effort between the Kenora Law Association, the Rainy River Law Association and Thunder Bay to establish an ongoing bursary to an in-course student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Currently the bursary is awarded to a student enrolled in the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, with the first recipient being Julia Tousaw in September 2014.
